Estimate your state income tax across all 50 states and DC. Compare tax burdens and see your combined federal + state liability.
Each state has its own income tax system. Nine states have no income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. New Hampshire taxes interest and dividends only. Other states use either a flat rate (e.g., Colorado at 4.40%, Illinois at 4.95%) or progressive brackets (e.g., California with rates up to 13.3%).
State taxes are calculated on top of federal taxes. Your combined effective rate is what you actually pay as a percentage of income. Use this calculator to compare what you'd pay in different states — the difference can be thousands of dollars per year.
